Mirena

This is the best contraceptive measure for us and i am actually very relieved to have this inserted though there's a price to pay for, as it doesn't come cheap and it's definitely awkward.
Some information about Mirena:

Mirena (levonorgestrel-releasing intrauterine system) is an intrauterine contraceptive that delivers small amounts of hormone directly to the uterus. Made of soft, flexible plastic, it is put in place by your healthcare provider during an office visit. Mirena is birth control that lasts as long as you want, for up to 5 years, and is also approved to treat heavy periods in women who choose intrauterine contraception.

What Mirena does:

- Offers an over 99% effective form of contraception, among the most effective forms of birth control
- Prevents pregnancy for as long as you want, for up to 5 years
- Allows you to try to become pregnant as soon as it is removed by your healthcare provider.*
- Treats heavy periods: In a clinical trial of women with heavy periods, the majority treated with Mirena showed a reduction in bleeding of more than 90% at 6 months

A series of blood test and medical checkup for me to go through before the gynae evaluated whether am i suitable for this. I am not sure is this the normal practice over at Singapore as well, but it is sure very tedious here at Beijing. The gynae was 薛大夫 from Amcare Hospital, a female lady who is specialised in this.

The whole surgery (as what they described) took less than 10mins. It was done in a surgery room, and i was panicked when they told me husband was not allowed in the room! I requested but they insisted husband cannot be in as it's a sterilised room and didn't want to risk it. Well, it was not that painful as what i expected, but i felt very awkward when it was inserted. And the other nurse did an ultrasound scan on my tummy while the surgery is conducted, to show me how the thing was being inserted and placed. I was thinking "can you stop all your talking now?! just get it done FAST!"

But i am rather proud of myself as the gynae said my pain tolerance is high as she said there were some other mums opt for anaesthetic. Moreover i never had vaginal birth, so my cervic is tight and she presumed it would be much more painful for me. Well, i am just happy that i get it done! No more baby number 3 for me, at least for these few years. And i am not worried anymore if Dear don't want to use "raincoat"! Hee
